Hanami Spots in Kanto

Check out the Japanese flowers. MLJ features all Japanese flower spots and hanami as seasonable events. Check out Ume which is one of the most favorit flower for Japanese people. It blossom in eary spring. Learn how Japanese people watch Sakura, it called Hanami. From the midle of March to April, it’s time for Ume(Plum). Then, it will switch to Sakura(Cherry Blossom) from the end of March to the midle of April (Note: It’s depend on the wether and temparature). Ume has verious kinds of colors such as, red, dark red, white, pink and so on, has nice sweet smell. Many Japanese Gardern has Ume to decorate with those beautiful colors. Sakura has smilar colors, like white and light pink. In June, you can enjoy Ajisai and Tutsuji. MLJ features all kinds of flowers and their related events.

Ueno Park, adjacent to the station, is home to most of the attractions in the area, including the Ueno Zoo and a concentration of Japan’s best museums. In cherry blossom season, Ueno Park is Tokyo’s most popular spot for outdoor hanami parties.
Saigo Takamori Statue. Near the main entrance to the park from JR station stands an unassuming statue of a pudgy man walking his dog. This is Saigo Takamori, a famous samurai general best known for leading the doomed Satsuma Rebellion against the Meiji government and the inspiration for Hollywood blockbuster The Last Samurai). These days, it’s the canonical place for meeting people at the park.
Ueno Zoo has over three hundred animals, including its star attractions, the giant pandas. Open 9:30AM-4:30PM (last entry 4PM) Tue-Sun. Admission \600
Tokyo National Museum. A gigantic complex that houses almost 100,000 art objects covering Japanese history from the Jomon period to the 20th centruy. Some descriptions are in English. General admission \420, university students \130, high school and younger free. Open daily 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, closed Mon. Special exhibitions charge separate admission fees. Admission includes access to the following buildings.

Les Vélib’ débarquent au Japon

Les 400 000 habitants de la ville de Toyama sont les premiers japonais à bénéficier, depuis le 20 mars, d’un système de vélos en libre service similaire aux Velib’ parisiens. C’est l’entreprise qui avait développé les Vélib’, JCDecaux, leader de la « communication extérieure » (la vente d’espaces publicitaires) en Europe en en Asie, qui a développé le projet et qui en a la gestion pour 20 ans.

Le groupe français, via sa filiale Cyclocity Inc., est le leader mondial des vélos en libre service. En s’implantant à Toyama, il dispose aujourd’hui d’une vitrine pour conquérir le reste du Japon, de plus en plus intéressé par les modes de transport « doux ».

Après avoir lancé le concept en 2003 à Vienne, Cyclocity s’était rapidement développée, et avait installé des systèmes similaires dans deux villes d’Espagne, puis à Lyon, à Paris et dans 10 autres villes de France. Aujourd’hui, la filiale de JCDecaux a implanté son système dans 64 villes Européennes, pour un parc total de 42 000 vélos à travers le monde et plus de 120 millions de locations depuis 2003.

La municipalité de Toyama a investi 150 millions de yens dans le projet, qui est également subventionné par le ministère de l’Environnement. Mais comme ses équivalents européens, les coûts de fonctionnement de « Cyclocity Toyama » seront principalement financés par les publicités affichées sur les vélos et sur les 15 « stations » disséminées à travers la ville. Les utilisateurs disposeront en tout de 150 vélos pour un abonnement mensuel de 500 yens (environ 5 euros).
Selon le succès qu’aura le système à Toyama, Cyclocity espère lancer des projets similaires un peu partout au Japon.

Parallèlement, l’entreprise a lancé la semaine dernière l’application Allbikesnow sur iPhone, permettant aux usagers de connaître le nombre de places libres et de vélos disponibles dans les différentes stations.

Extrêmement populaire au Japon, le bentô fait son apparition en Europe en proposant une version plus élégante, équilibrée et soignée de la lunch-box. Son format pratique fait de lui le meilleur allié des déjeuners de bureau ou à l’école, des pique-niques improvisés, des voyages en train ou en avion… tout en conservant une pointe d’humour ou de poésie.

Chacun peut adopter le menu bentô qui lui ressemble pour toutes les situations, ou s’inspirer des nombreuses recettes de base pour révolutionner sa cuisine du quotidien… et, pourquoi pas, se lancer définitivement dans la cuisine japonaise !

構造技術の紹介 – 五重塔のような、制振構造 Pagoda-like structure d’amortissement

地震や強風時の揺れに対し、いかに安心・安全な建物とするかさまざまに試みた結果、中央部に設けた鉄筋コンクリート造の円筒(=心柱*)と外周部の鉄骨造の塔体を構造的に分離し、中央部の心柱上部を「重り」として機能させた、新しい制振システムを用いています。
原理としては「質量付加機構*」という現代の制振技術を応用したもので、大地震時に40%程度の応答せん断力を低減することができます。

一方、日本の伝統的な塔である「五重塔*」は、これまでに地震による倒壊例がなく、その秘密は、同じく建物中央の柱=心柱にあると推察されています。

634mという塔を現代の技術でつくろうと試みた結果、いわば、現代の最新技術と伝統的構法が出会ったわけです。そこで、今回の制振システムを五重塔になぞらえて、「心柱制振」と呼んでいます。

質量付加機構:
地震時などに、構造物本体とタイミングがずれて振動する付加質量(=重り)を加えることで、本体と重りの揺れを相殺させて、構造物全体の揺れを抑制する制振システムです。 付加質量には、通常、鋼塊やコンクリート塊が用いられますが、質量の大きい設備機器や畜熱槽等を質量に利用する例もあります。今回のように、心柱=階段室を付加質量に用いた例は世界初です。

五重塔:
日本独自の木造建築物です。台風や火事による倒壊はあるものの、地震による倒壊の記録は残っておらず、耐震性に優れた建物といわれています。高い耐震性の理由にはさまざまな説がありますが、「心柱」が大きな役割を果たしていると考えられています。

心柱:
本来は五重塔など仏塔の中央部に建てた柱のことです。東京スカイツリーにおいては、同じく中央部に建てられる円筒部(鉄筋コンクリート造、内部は階段室)を指します。

Bilingual Taxis between Haneda Airport and Downtown Tokyo – Anzen Group’s Fixed Fare Taxis

On February 6, Itabashi Ward, Tokyo-based taxi company Anzen Group Corporation began offering a Bilingual Taxi service in multiple languages between the downtown Tokyo area and Haneda Airport.

The company is responding to the diversification of travelers that will accompany the internationalization and re-expansion of Haneda Airport in October of this year by assigning drivers who can speak English, Chinese, Spanish or Korean to its Haneda Airport Fixed Fare Taxi service it first started up in December of last year.

Reservations must be made (online only) at least 48 hours in advance. Fares are the same as those for the Fixed Fare Taxi service as outlined below.

Haneda Airport – Asakusa/Shibuya/Shinjuku/Akihabara
6,000 yen 5:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. / 8,000 yen 10:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.

Haneda Airport – Nakano/Ikebukuro
8,000 yen / 9,000 yen

Haneda Airport – Kichijoji
11,000 yen / 13,000 yen

A company spokesperson said of the new service, “We expect there to be more foreign businesspeople and tourists accompanying the greater number of international flights at Haneda, so we saw that there will be demand for multilingual customer service for getting from the airport to downtown or for going to the Airport.”

Customers can also ride Bilingual Taxis with the company’s Narita Airport Fixed Fare and Tokyo Disney Resort Fixed Fare services.

ANA Offers Women-Only Lavatories on Planes – Men Also Want Theirs

Since March 1, Minato Ward, Tokyo-based All Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. (ANA) began introducing its first women-only lavatories on aircraft flown on the group’s international routes.

One lavatory is located at the rear end of the economy class section of each aircraft, with a sign on the door indicating that under normal circumstances it is for women only. Female passengers sitting in first and business class can also use the lavatory.

Men can use the women-only lavatory in the following situations:

- When required for safety reasons, just prior to the seat belt sign being turned on during take-off and landing.

- When a passenger is not feeling well and a personal emergency requires such use.

- When there are very few female passengers and the women-only designation has been lifted for the flight.

The impetus for introducing women-only lavatories was the large number of women responding to questionnaires who expressed a desire for them. Some of the reasons given were “It’s hard to use the lavatory after a man has” and “I don’t like waiting in line behind men after eating a meal on the plane.”

ANA plans to have women-only lavatories on all aircraft by the end of April, excluding A320s and B737s. However, the airline said, “After we began setting up the lavatories, some male customers said, ‘We want men-only lavatories since women have their own,’ so we are reconsidering.”
